30 Days of Film - Day 2.

2. The most underrated movie

Tightly plotted and cleverly written comedy filled with old favourites (who doesn't like Boman Irani?) and new likable faces (Kunal Khemu is awesome, Soha Ali Khan is always solid). So explain to me why it sometimes feel like it's just me and Filmi Girl who watched 99? The directors went on to do Shor in the City, which was a pretty popular little-film-that-could that seemed to make a lot of people's "underrated 2011 films" list, so everybody of you reading who enjoyed that film, please seek out 99. It's a good time, I promise you. For more persuasion, please see previously linked reviews from yours truly and FG.

It's even got Vinod Khanna! Like, come on now.

PS. It looks the directors of this film are re-uniting with Kunal Khemu and Saif Ali Khan in their next one! I'm too psyched.

My knowledge of Hindi films is sadly limited to SRK movies from back in the day. I've recently gotten back to looking out for Hindi films. Ppl keep recommending Aamir Khan movies but the ones I've watched seem a bit contrived. Maybe I'll check 99 out since I recently watched Shir in the city, and quite liked it.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

I don't have anything else to say but, yeah. Very underrated film for sure.

IcyHighs - There are certainly plenty of recent worthwhile Aamir films, though your mileage may vary. I recommend Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots, Lagaan, Fanaa...

FG - :D!

I'm very confused now. You recommend 99, and your tastes are quite similar to mine a lot of the time, but Filmi Girl says she loves it, and almost without exception, the more she likes a film, the more I'll hate it.The two of you have made sure the native hue of my resolution is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, damn you!

Tastes work in mysterious ways. I think FG has a higher tolerance for a certain brand of comedy and I think we share some favourites in actors (Salman, Akshay, Vikram..) but it just goes to show, sometimes it's impossible to rely on somebody else's tastes and you just have to see some things for yourself to know how you'd rate them..

I might give it a go, based on that "pure fun" tagline. When I watched Shor I could recognise it as a quality film, but didn't really enjoy it that much. If this one is more fun while being from the same creative team, it will probably suit me better.
